Wedges used by Wilson Staff Advisory Member Padraig Harrington to capture two major championships in 2008
Wilson Staff has released new Tw9 Tour-Milled wedges, designed for higher spin production and precise distance control. The wedges feature deep tour-milled grooves, allowing players to control distance and increase accuracy around the green.
Three-time major champion and 2008 PGA Player of the Year, Padraig Harrington used the wedges for the first time during his successful bid for the 2008 British Open Championship, chipping in twice. "The Tw9 wedges were superb, they worked great," he said at his victory press conference. "I saw them for the first time two weeks ago and put them straight in the bag."
With momentum on his side, he captured the 2008 PGA Championship just three weeks later. The 2-stroke victory at Oakland Hill Country Club marked the 61st major championship won with Wilson Staff irons and the 82nd won with Wilson wedges.
The Tw9 Tour-Milled wedges feature tour-milled grooves for exceptional shot-stopping spin. The aggressive U-grooves are milled into the head after casting, using the same process previously exclusive to Padraig Harrington?s own wedges. The clubs are then double-heated to provide a soft, responsive feel and are available in either classic satin or black gunmetal anti-glare finishes. Tw9 wedges are offered in multiple loft options designed specifically for precise yardage options when targeting pins from shorter distances.
The new 48- and 50-degree Tw9 wedges were specifically designed with less bounce and a cavity back structure for more forgiveness from fairway lies. The 52-, 54-, 56-, 58- and 60-degree wedges were formed in a blade-style design for playability with sole and bounce, which is intended for creative shot-making from a multitude of fairways, bunkers and greenside lies.
Harrington, a Wilson Staff professional since 1998, recently re-signed a multi-year deal with the company.
